Good practice in volunteer management is key to unlocking the potential of volunteering in your organisation. This online course provides an introduction to the key principles of good practice in volunteer management and how to apply them to your organisation. This training will take place over two half days (10.00- 13.00) and you need to attend both days of the same course. This training will take place on Zoom and over two half days (10.00 -13.00) and you need to attend both days of the same course. We will send out the Zoom link with the joining instructions before the first session. 

January course 
Session 1:  Monday 24 January 2022  (10.00 until 13.00)
Session 2:  Wednesday 26  January 2022 (10.00 until 13.00) 

February course

By the end of the day, you will:
  • be able to demonstrate the key principles of good practice in managing, supporting and motivating volunteers
  • understand the key skills and competencies required to manage volunteers
  • have identified specific ways to motivate and reward volunteers in your organisation
  • have explored how to deal with difficult situations
  • know where to find practical support with volunteer management.


This course is aimed at those new to volunteer management and those who manage volunteers, as well as those who need a refresher.

Jarina Choudhury is NCVO’s volunteering development consultancy officer. She has hands-on experience of managing volunteers from diverse backgrounds in a pan-London Big Lottery funded programme. She leads NCVO’s volunteer management training programme and delivers consultancy. She has trained voluntary and corporate sector organisations to develop and improve their approach to volunteering.

Our pricing structure is based on your organisation’s gross annual income. NCVO members also receive a 30% discount off training prices. Organisations with a gross annual income of less than £30,000 can join NCVO for free and will then qualify for the discount.
