ONLINE TRAINING: Safeguarding essentials for trustees (0.5 day course)

  • Half day
  • Online

  • Governance and trustees
Protecting people and safeguarding is a fundamental part of operating as a charity for the public benefit. Charity trustees must take reasonable steps to protect from harm people who come into contact with their charity. This introductory training session explains the key responsibilities of trustees for safeguarding in line with guidance from the Charity Commission. It also brings to life good practice in embedding safeguarding within governance, including seeking assurance and the role of Lead Trustees for safeguarding. The course also explores common safeguarding risks that trustees themselves should consider and managing personal behaviour and relationships.

By the end of the session, you will have:
  • Understood the principle safeguarding duties to staff, volunteers, children and adults at risk of harm and others in contact with your organisation within current law and policy
  • Understood governance and assurance role of trustees in building a safeguarding culture
  • Aware of safer working responsibilities as a trustee

This course is suitable for any trustee but is especially helpful for trustees with designated Board level responsibility for safeguarding.

For those seeking an overarching introduction and operational delivery of safeguarding in charities; consider our Safeguarding Essentials in Charities one day course. This course would be a useful next step to then apply safeguarding with a Trustee role.
