EVENT DETAILS

Our Members’ Assemblies help us understand the challenges voluntary organisations are facing, helping inform the work we do. For this event, we're working in partnership with Surrey Community Action to engage our members and the voluntary sector across the south-east.

Our assemblies are a great way for our members to network with each other, share ideas about current issues and talk directly to NCVO staff about how we can support them.

By attending our Members' Assembly, our members will have the opportunity to:
  • hear how to deliver wellbeing at work and more inclusive services
  • meet and network with other voluntary organisations in south London
  • share best practice, experiences, and ideas.

THE voluntary sector post covid

As we emerge from covid, our sector faces multiple challenges – from energy prices to mental health and hybrid working. How can voluntary sector organisations in the south-east support each other to survive and thrive in this changing landscape?

In this session, NCVO will give an overview of the sectors' finances and role in society. We'll explore together key political, social, economic and technological trends facing charities and voluntary organisations over the coming year, supported by data from our annual Almanac and learning from The Road Ahead.

NCVO colleagues will facilitate breakout discussions around the issues and opportunities facing the sector. You'll have space to:
  • discuss your worries
  • share your plans in responding
  • think about the opportunities for you in the future.

You'll leave the session with:
  • an understanding of the key challenges facing the sector post-covid
  • examples of good practice responses to those challenges.

WORKING TOGETHER AT PLACE AND SCALE

We talk a lot about working at scale (eg mental health services across Surrey) and also about working at place (eg within a specific community), but sometimes the areas under discussion don’t seem to connect, or different people define place differently.

How can our sector be present and represented in conversations around place and scale, and how we make sure representation and delivery is truly egalitarian? How do we make sure that the knowledge and skills of hyper-local community groups are given parity of esteem with larger county-wide organisations?

In this session, Surrey Community Action will explore how local authorities, integrated care systems, and the voluntary sector in the south-east can collaborate to ensure local expertise is fed into the county level, and that this wider understanding is drilled back down into hyper-local areas.

You'll have the opportunity to discuss your challenges in operating at place and at scale, and in making sure that the right organisations are at the right tables to embed the voluntary sector in health and care, and beyond.

You'll leave the session with:
  • a greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities of operating at place and scale
  • a range of ideas, experiences and insight from their peers that can inform future working relationships.

This Members’ Assembly is aimed at staff and trustees from NCVO members across the south-east of England. Non-member organisations in the local area are also welcome.
