This online course will give you an understanding of the fundamentals of income generation and equip you with the confidence to set up or manage a funding function with your organisation.


By the end of the day you will:
  • be aware of how income is generated in the voluntary sector, how it is regulated and key ethical considerations.  
  • have considered the landscape for income generation at the current time
  • developed a full grasp of the income spectrum – where you currently get funding and where you might like to diversify your income using different approaches
  • be clear on the key principles behind various income generation techniques and identify examples of organisations using them well.


This course is aimed at:
  • people new to income generation and fundraising roles in small and medium-sized charities, helping them to understand the context for funding today and the fundamental principles of various income streams
  • people stepping-up to lead an income generation or fundraising team and/or managing several income streams, giving them the confidence to manage new areas where they may not have direct experience.

Leah Selinger is a consultant at NCVO. Leah’s fundraising experience includes holding director of fundraising roles at national charities, and supporting small and medium sized voluntary sector organisations to raise funds from a wide range of sources.  She is a charity trustee, CIC Director and school governor, and has experience of grant making. 
Leah has over 20 years’ experience as a senior manager and fundraiser in the voluntary sector where she has worked in, and with, organisations to be help them become more effective and sustainable through a combination of support services covering governance, strategy, income generation and implementation.


This training will take place on Zoom. We will send out the Zoom link with the joining instructions before the session. 

The training will run from 10.00–15.00 with short breaks and a longer lunch break.

Our pricing structure is based on your organisation’s gross annual income. NCVO members also receive a 30% discount off training prices. Organisations with a gross annual income of less than £30,000 can join NCVO for free and will then qualify for the discount.
