Safer recruitment is an essential part of safeguarding and is for anybody recruiting staff or volunteers to work with children, young people or adults at risk. The course covers key steps within your recruitment processes, to help safeguard and best protect the vulnerable groups you work with. It’s important you have rigorous safer recruitment at the heart of your organisation.
This course will ensure that participants have knowledge and understanding of offender behaviour and be able to relate it to a safer recruitment process.  It guides participants through the safer recruitment process to ensure that the best possible decisions are made and also reminds them of their responsibilities for dealing with allegations.  

The day consists of four assessed modules covering:

  1. The Context for Safer Recruitment 
  2. A Safer Recruitment Process
  3. Making the Right Decisions
  4. An ongoing culture of vigilance


By the end of the course you will:
·         have examined the key legislation, statutory guidance and policies and procedures for recruitment
·         be able to describe the key standards for safer recruitment
·         understand how to assess job roles for DBS checks eligibility
·         know how to manage allegations and the duty to refer

This course is accredited by the Safer Recruitment Consortium, including the NSPCC and Lucy Faithful Foundation. Participants will receive a certificate which is recognised by inspection regimes as evidence of understanding best practice in safer recruitment.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anyone involved in the recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers to work with children and/or adults at risk in any context.  


Deborah Gregory  works in association with SAFEcic  and is chair of the Eastern and South Eastern Regional Safer Employment Network. She aims to drive up standards of safer employment for Eastern and South Eastern Regional Safer Employment Network members. She provides training and consultancy in Recruitment and Selection, Safer Recruitment, Warner Interviewing and Value Based Recruitment across all sectors, including the independent education sector.


 The training will run from 09.30 until 16.30.
